The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!
The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God;
worship at his footstool! Holy is he!
HE IS HOLY. What does it mean to say God is holy? The Hebrew word means literally to be completely “set apart.” When applied to God, the word means there is none like him, that he is infinitely above us and all things in power, perfection, and righteousness. When people are holy (1 Peter 1:16), it means they belong wholly to God. They serve not with divided loyalties but with their whole heart. For the Christian church to be holy means it should be radically different. The early Christians stuck out in the Greco-Roman pagan society because of their integrity and honesty, their sympathy and forgiveness, their sexual chastity, and their financial generosity. They were holy. Are we?
