Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
God’s Word makes us wise—wiser than our enemies and wiser than any teachers who ignore it. True wisdom goes beyond amassing knowledge; it is applying knowledge in a life-changing way. It corrects us, leads us in the right way, and teaches us to make holy choices. Intelligent or experienced people are not necessarily wise. Wisdom comes from allowing God’s wisdom to guide us and make a difference in our lives. The gospel tends to be rejected by the knowledgeable and high ranking, but embraced by the needy and humbled. Wisdom comes to those who humbly receive it in love (v. 97), obedience (v. 101) and delight (v. 104). Is God’s Word a delight to your heart?
Lord teach me to savor and relish the teachings of Your Word. It has medicine for every wound and is filled with the infinite sweetness of Christ!
