    Your word is a lamp to my feet

        and a light to my path.

    I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,

        to keep your righteous rules.

    I am severely afflicted;

        give me life, O LORD, according to your word!

    Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD,

        and teach me your rules.

    I hold my life in my hand continually,

        but I do not forget your law.

God’s Word provides the insight to guide His children and not trip in the darkness; discerning His way. It provides illumination in decision making. Obedience was not risk free-obedience. It can often bring persecution but believers are more concerned about living a godly life that is pleasing to the Lord.

Q. 123. Which is the second petition?

A. "Thy kingdom come"; that is, rule us so by your word and Spirit, that we may submit ourselves more and more to you; preserve and increase your church; destroy the works of the devil, and all violence which would exalt itself against you; and also all wicked counsels devised against your holy word; until the full perfection of your kingdom takes place, wherein you will be all in all.
