Blessed is the one who fears the LORD always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

This proverb warns against stubbornness. We become stubborn when we rationalize the wrong that we do or cut ourselves off from God’s Word, God’s church, and God’s people who might challenge our ways. Over time we become insensitive to God’s leading and lose the desire to change. Respecting and fearing God means keeping an open mind and open heart toward him and having faithful friends. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. (Prov 27:8). Do you have a faithful friend who speaks the truth, in love? Those who fear the Lord and want to please the Lord will pursue, pray for and develop godly friendships. Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
