A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,

and favor is better than silver or gold.

Our Lord carries this teaching a step further in Luke 10:20, to show that at a still higher level, not the power we wield, but the love in which we are held, is our proper joy. Our reputation (who we are on the way out); is more important than who we are on the way in. What we are before the Lord is more important than how much we make and what we achieve.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”
