“If anyone comes to me and does not hate(love less) his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple; So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”
The true follower of Christ understands what it might cost to live for the glory of God. The true disciple knows that living to please Christ is more important than living to please man, in every personal relationship. (v26) The disciple’s chief ambition in life is to glorify God more than personal power, position, ambition or advancement. (v27) The true disciple’s goal in living for God’s glory has more value than acquiring personal possessions and accumulating wealth. (v33)
Luke 9:23-25
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?”
