Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

Heidelberg Catechism Question #107

But is it enough that we do not kill any man in the manner mentioned above?

Answer. No: for when God forbids envy, hatred, and anger, he commands us to love our neighbour as ourselves; to show patience, peace, meekness, mercy, and all kindness, towards him, and prevent his hurt as much as in us lies; and that we do good, even to our enemies.

Those who are “in step with the Holy Spirit” (Gal 5:25) are to reach out to the believer whom sin has ensnared, but also to be cautious, lest sin also ensnare them in the process. (Jms 5:20)The care of the souls within the community should be the concern of every member, not only the clergy or church officers. Mutual help and encouragement are required. Is there anyone you could reach out to today or this week, that has fallen into significant sin or wandered from the true faith? A ministry of restoration can only be exercised by those who are spiritually strong, so be careful to avoid Satan’s pits into which the careless can fall. Pray earnestly and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, to keep you from falling (Jude 22- 25).
